This producer planned on seeding his cover crop after harvesting his spring wheat crop. He planted on September 6th. He is planning for a fall graze sometime after a hard freeze–typically around November 1st.
His objective is to improve and getting organic matter into the soil, giving it a chance for something to grow instead of weeds.
He is the only producer planting this late in the growing season, so it will be interesting to see how well his cover crop thrives.
