Producer #4 seeded the first cover crops in fallow fields on May 28th. The mix chosen was Golden German millet, Sorghum Sudan BMR, Mastergraze corn, Purple-top turnips, Perdovik sunflower and Tiffany teff grass. This was planted in two areas. Cattle is presently grazing in one area of the project. The other area is for fall graze sometime in September or October. He plans to seed wheat in this field.
UPDATE: Early August. The producer mentioned that the crops are not growing as fast as he had hoped so there are some weeds growing along with the cover crops.
CD: Other producers who used cover crops have mentioned weeds were there initially, but over time, didn’t seem to be the problem it once was.
